Day 15: I had lunch with J and R; leftover salad from last night.
I had dinner with J and R and J9 and E and B at Ella. It was amazing.
But, while I want to point out that Shishito Peppers are amazingly interesting (1 in 7 is terribly spicy, while the other six are so mild that you're basically eating a green bell pepper), or that the "steak and eggs" was the best combination ever, or that the salads and soups all deserve positive mention, I can't. I can't do it.
Because, to do all of that, I would have to slight the best two dishes of the evening:
1 - Sardines
2 - Basil Veggies
Yes, there was steak, pork belly, mussels, hamburger... but these two were the highlights of the evening.
Sardines: Head on. Tails on. Bones in. AMAZING.
Basil Veggies: This was a dish that was whipped up by the cooks for J9, in lieu of potatoes, and it was a one-off thing that is not on the menu.
It's not unfair to say that EVERYSINGLEPERSON at the table was a fan, and we really did, unanimously, advise our waitress to immediately add this to the menu. Apparently, it was just something the chefs cooked up, and is not normally available. We were fighting over the scraps, like hounds. I did awful things to my dear friends, just to get a little more of this stuff. R and I are going to try to recreate it, and we'll post the recipe.
But...
But...
But...
But all of this pales, in the larger context of life.
Tomorrow, my bed, my furniture, my kitchen, my Jeep, and my BED arrive.
I love you, air mattress. But I love MY BED a lot more.
Goodnight, my peeps. Tomorrow, I snuggle down like a human being.
You are all invited to join me.
