Day 0: A warm towel? A warm meal? An extra-large seat with an extra-wide arm-rest? As much snackies as I want? Oh, Delta Airlines, how did you know??
I was bumped up to first class, which resulted in an EXTREMELY comfortable trip from Columbia to Atlanta (38 minutes), and thence from Atlanta to Sacramento (4 hours and 13 minutes). Tragically, there was no video system on the plane, so I was not able to watch some family-friendly movie like "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", which, by the way, is causing Jules Verne to spin in his grave so fast that he's actually affecting local magnetic fields due entirely to the rate of his rotation and the metal fillings in his teeth. Instead, we were forced to entertain ourselves, and entertain ourselves we did. The most beautiful young couple you have ever seen were playing with the most beautiful baby you have ever seen: as they walked her up and down the aisles, she kept looking at me, and then burying her face in her mama's legs, and then looking at me again... adorable, I say!
Upon landing in Sacramento, I made my way to the baggage claim (and happily discovered that my camera had arrived intact), and then boarded the shuttle to the...
Okay, how much detail do you want, really? I went to the rental car shuttle, then I went and picked up a rental car, then I went to the hotel, then Julie and I couldn't see each other because of an ill-placed column, and hilarity ensued...
No, I think let's leave this to the important, relevant, ADVENTUROUS details, right?
After checking into the best little Hilton in Sacramento, I was summoned to Rafi's place, and we joined Mike (a colleague) and his wife Jess (and it's CLEAR that these are going to be friends!) for a delicious lunch at The Broiler, a local steak place. Afterwards, I retired to the hotel, and crashed for a few hours, while USA played an NCIS:SVU marathon.
I woke up just in time to watch the sun set over the Rocky Mountains... the turned my head 180 degrees and realized that the Rockies were decidedly to my east...
Still, the sunset was impressive, and the subsequent fireworks all around the skyline were really neat.
I'm heading to bed at an hour that my computer (in EST) reports to be 1:28 a.m., having arisen at (in EST) 4:30 a.m.
I'm going to sleep like a champ.
And, in the morning...
ADVENTURE!! :)
