Day 235

Day 235: I know a LOT about Quentin Tarantino.

A LOT.

B23, who I hadn't really hung out with socially in a long while, invited me to join him for Quentin Tarantino trivia, and I could hardly refuse, because if there's one thing I know, it's QT.  His movies, his life, his early career, the background trivia that only a truly fanatical devotee would know.

We won, by the way.  The third place team ended with 45 points, and the second place team ended with 47.

We ended with EIGHTY-FIVE POINTS.

Yeah. It was kind of a curb-stomp.

The grand prize was a PROJECTOR, of all things.  It was a cheap projector, but it's mine now (I played the birthday card, and there was a consensus that I was pretty strong overall), and I am curious to see how it works out.

I'll post the questions today, and the answers tomorrow (though of course you can simply Google the answers if you are impatient!).

If you like, you can leave your answers in the comments, and I'll score them fairly.  IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THIS, GO AHEAD AND DO SOME RESEARCH UP FRONT, AS WE ALL DID, AND THEN TAKE THE QUIZ WITHOUT THE INTERNET.  If you're going to use the internet, there's really no point to any of this, now, is there?

Alternately, you can email me at chainsawpenguinblog@gmail.com, and I'll respond with your score.

The questions are after this picture of Uma Thurman from Kill Bill, Volume 1:
Picture
Round 1 - Reservoir Dogs (each question worth 1 point, except for question 1)

1 - For one point each (for each pair, that is) name all six of the robbers' code names, and the actor who portrayed them.
2 - What famous comedian voiced the radio host of "KBILLY's Super Sounds of the 70s Weekend"?
3 - Who is the only character to make it out of the warehouse alive?
4 - What is the name of the iconic song played while an ear is cut off?  For one bonus point, who sings it?

Round 2 - Pulp Fiction (each question worth 2 points)

1 - What brand of fast food does Samuel L. Jackson's character enjoy?  For a bonus two points, what brand of cigarettes are featured in the film?
2 - Which of the following does Butch NOT consider in the Pawn Shop, while searching for a weapon?

    a. hammer
    b. samurai sword
    c. chainsaw
    d. axe
    e. baseball bat

3 - What character does Steve Buscemi cameo as?  His character in the movie is portraying A DIFFERENT PERSON in the movie, so that's the name we're looking for here.
4 - Who sings the cover of "Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon" that plays during the heroin overdose?  (We had no idea, but someone shouted it out!  I'm leaving it here just in case.)

THAT QUESTION WAS REPLACED BY A QUESTION ABOUT FOUR ROOMS:

4 - Who played Tim Roth's girlfriend, in the segment, "The Witches"?  (This is wrong about ten ways from Sunday; the segment is called "The Missing Ingredient", and she seduces him, but is decidedly NOT his girlfriend).  As a hint, the host pointed out that she also starred in "Say Anything" with John Cusack, and famously dated Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Round 3 - Jackie Brown (each question worth 3 points)

1 - Jackie Brown is based on what novel?  For an extra 3 points, who is the author?
2 - When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherf****** in the room, what weapon does Ordell recommend?
3 - What restaurant does Jackie eat from when she meets Robert Forster's character in the mall food court?

    a. Teriyaki Donut
    b. Sbarro
    c. It's not c.
    d. Sushi King

4 - What legendary R&B Singer sings the song that plays over the opening credits ("Across 110th Street")?  For absolutely no points whatsoever, what movie is it originally from?

Round 4 - Kill Bill (each question worth 4 points)

1 - Match the characters to their codenames.  For an additional four points, name the group that they are all a member of.

    1 - Oren Ishii
    2 - Elle Driver
    3 - Budd
    4 - Vernita Green
    5 - Bill

    a - California Mountain Snake
    b - Sidewinder
    c - Cottonmouth
    d - Black Mamba
    e - Copperhead

NOTE: We all quickly figured out that there was a problem with this question, and the host clarified that one of them was a trick; there are only four correct answers (plus the bonus), so a maximum of 20 points here.

BONUS: Just for giggles, we answered what the Bride's codename was, as well as Bill's.  You are welcome to do the same!

2 - What is the name written on the tombstone under which the Bride is buried alive by Budd?
3 - What famous kung fu actor played the sword maker Hattori Hanzo?
4 - Michael Parks plays the pimp Esteban Vihaio, who is the leader of a gang of orphaned sons of prostitutes.  What is this gang called?  (side note: interestingly, this isn't mentioned on the wikipedia page for the movie, so it's a very obscure detail.  The gang is also mentioned in Jackie Brown, Death Proof, and one of the Grindhouse "ads" that played between features.  I knew all of that, but still couldn't remember the name of the gang!!)

Round 5 - Inglorious Basterds (each question worth 5 points)

1 - What Native American tribe do Aldo Raine's troops identify with, particularly due to the scalping of Nazi soldiers?
2 - In the bar in the basement, the soldiers are playing a guessing game where they have to figure out what character they have been given by their friends, and a German Officer is the only one who plays it correctly and wins, correctly guessing which famous character he is.  What character was he in the game?
3 - What is the name of the movie-within-the-movie that features Fredrick Zoller's heroics as a sniper for the Nazi army?
4 - This film was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, but won only one.  For 1/2 point, what is the name of the person that actually received the award?  (Note: we got this right and got the bonus, but the 1/2 point didn't show up in our total... but it really, really didn't matter)

Round 6 - Final Tarantino (each question worth 6 points)

1 - Tarantino famously passed up the opportunity to direct a mainstream movie following the success of "Reservoir Dogs", and it went on to become one of the most famous and profitable movies of 1994?
2 - Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are frequent collaborators.  What movie marks their first time working together?  (Note: they accepted two different answers, as there were two movies released in the same year that had both attached; we, too, will accept either one)
3 - Tarantino is rumored to have written dialogue for what Michael Bay masterpiece?  (note: some internet investigation reveals that this is AT BEST a rumor, so don't worry too much if you don't get this one.  We didn't!)
4 - Tarantino had a very early acting job as an Elvis impersonator in what sitcom?  (note: I actually knew the name of the EPISODE from my pre-game research, so I'll give you points if you happen to know that, as well).

Tomorrow, ADVENTURE!! :)
